Read the Wikipedia article on Improv theatre. Consider the fundamental principles of improv. A large part of getting improv to work is changing the expectations of the players. New improvisers get in their own way by doing things they consider “creative” but which actually ruin the game. Experienced improvisers know how to let go of control and let the story tell itself.
What kinds of expectations do computer game players have when they come to a new game? How might these expectations hamper certain kinds of experience? Can we train players to take a different approach to games which will give them more enjoyment? How?
